PORTLAND, OR (May 15, 2014) – Littler, the world’s largest employment and labor law practice representing management, has added to its growing shareholder ranks in Portland with the arrival of John Berg. He brings with him an expansive labor and employment litigation practice, ranging from retaliation, discrimination and harassment suits to traditional labor and unfair competition matters. Berg was previously at Fisher & Phillips and his arrival follows several other recent notable additions in Littler’s Portland Office including shareholders Tamsen Leachman and David Symes and experienced associates Jennifer Warberg, Brian Weeks and LeiLani (Lei) Hart.
“John has had considerable success as a litigator and labor and employment counselor. He is an outstanding addition to our Portland office as we further build Littler’s presence in the Pacific Northwest,” said Portland Office Managing Shareholder Doug Parker. “His arrival coupled with our other recent additions, underscores Littler’s commitment to attracting the highest level of legal talent to serve our clients in Portland, our Northwest region, and all of our other national and global strategic markets.”
Drawn to the firm’s extensive resources, geographic footprint and impressive roster of labor and employment attorneys, Berg said he is excited to get started at Littler and contribute to the firm’s leading global platform of specialized labor and employment services and innovative client offerings. “Littler’s reputation is reality, particularly its significant resources and depth of talent,” he said. “This was an obvious choice for me as I look to grow my practice and provide sophisticated labor and employment solutions to clients.”
Berg, who practiced in Chicago for more than 10 years before relocating to Portland, has extensive litigation experience in a number of practice areas, including workplace harassment, whistleblowing, executive compensation, non-competition agreements, trade secret misappropriation, and disability and religious accommodation. His traditional labor experience includes state and federal lawsuits concerning unlawful picketing and breach of collective bargaining agreements, labor arbitrations, and unfair labor practice charges at the National Labor Relations Board. With a proven track record at trial, Berg has tried cases in federal court and before arbitrators at the National Association of Securities Dealers (now FINRA) and American Arbitration Association. He has also successfully written and argued state and federal appeals.
A frequent speaker, Berg regularly presents on a wide variety of labor and employment topics, from practical advice for human resource challenges to legal and business solutions to employee defection, unfair competition and theft of confidential information.
Berg received his J.D. from Loyola University Chicago School of Law cum laude and his B.A. from Miami University in Oxford, Ohio.
