ROCHESTER, New York (November 12, 2018) – Littler, the world’s largest employment and labor law practice representing management, is pleased to announce that two of its attorneys have been recognized in The Daily Record’s 2018 Attorneys of the Year Awards. Rochester Shareholder Maggie Clemens and Office Managing Shareholder Trent Sutton were among 14 members of the local legal community to be selected.
The Daily Record’s Attorneys of the Year Awards honor outstanding lawyers through the Leaders in Law, Pro Bono, Judicial Excellence and Lifetime Achievement Awards. Clemens received the Lifetime Achievement Award, which recognizes lawyers whose careers have helped shape the legal landscape in the Rochester area and have shown longstanding commitment to the community. Sutton received the Leaders in Law Award, which honors attorneys who have shown dedication to the legal profession and selfless commitment to the community. The 2018 Attorneys of the Year Awards will be presented on November 12 at a reception and dinner at the Hyatt Regency in Rochester.

Founder of Littler’s Rochester office, Clemens has represented and counseled employers and employee benefit plans and their fiduciaries in all aspects of employment law, including Employee Retirement Income Security Act (ERISA) cases, for more than 34 years. Clemens has used her extensive courtroom experience in federal and in New York state courts to represent national, regional and local employers throughout trial and, if needed, at the appellate level, including to the U.S. Supreme Court. She has been consecutively named to the 2019 Best Lawyers in America© list since 2003, and was named Lawyer of the Year in 2018 by Best Lawyers.
Clemens received her J.D., magna cum laude, from Albany Law School and her B.A., summa cum laude, from State University of New York at Albany.
Sutton serves as office managing shareholder of the Rochester office where he leads the local efforts of the office and has been instrumental in its growth. With a global practice, he provides strategic advice and counsel to multinational employers on a wide range of international employment and compliance matters. Sutton uses his experience and extensive international network to guide multinational employers on the intricacies associated with employment in multiple nations. Additionally, he regularly advises companies within the U.S., whether foreign or domestic, on the requirements and strategies necessary to comply with U.S. employment and labor law. Sutton was recognized in the 2018 Who’s Who Legal: Labour, Employment & Benefits guide.
Sutton received his J.D., cum laude, and B.A. from Brigham Young University. He earned his M.P.A. from Syracuse University.
