Mattheus Stephens discusses the importance of training and learning opportunities for new attorneys and provides recommendations for senior practitioners to help guide and teach them, including:
- Approach engagements with new lawyers as though teaching at an academy of law
- Be conscious of all the things a new lawyer may not know yet
- Be genuine about what you do and don’t know about the law, to demonstrate that an ongoing effort on learning is needed to be successful
- Include newer attorneys in new things, like examinations at depositions or arguments before the Court
- Make space and time for new attorneys to learn
