In 2022, employment counsel and HR leaders were coming to grips with HR-focused Predictive AI tools and the initial waves of AI regulation. One year in, many have embarked on a journey of pragmatic AI adoption and risk-assessment. But the regulatory landscape is still foggy, particularly at state and local levels – New York City’s first-in-the-nation law remains uncertain and unenforced; California appears to be headed in multiple, conflicting directions; and D.C., New Jersey and several other jurisdictions are drafting their own approaches to AI regulation.
